Hamilton Harriers 10K Club Championship Race 2011

My second race since returning from an achilles injury. Last week I clocked 18mins 59secs for the Hamilton Harriers 5K Club Championship. Today, however, I improved somewhat and clocked 38mins 02secs for the 10K Club Championship. The heart rate readings are wholly inaccurate as my chest strap kept slipping, thereby giving rogue readings. Michael Brawley and I ran the race side by side from the start to almost the finish, but he sprinted away in the last 20m to clock 1 second faster than me. A great race!

Return to running

I returned to running training on 29th December 2010. My achilles is still a bit fragile. I raced for the first time yesterday (22/1/11) in the Hamilton Harriers Christmas 5K Handicap Race. My achilles is still a bit raw. There is a mild burning sensation in my left heel. I have also been running a few runs without wearing my Garmin watch. My heart rate readings are a bit inaccurate, because my chest strap tends to slip from time to time and that distorts the readings e.g. 198bpm - totally crazy.

Dechmont Training Loop January 1st - 3rd 2011

Still a bit nervous about re-injuring my achilles. I stopped today as I felt a slight twinge on my left achilles. I kept going after stretching it a bit and it felt okay again. My heart rate readings are a bit inaccurate, because my chest strap tends to slip from time to time and that distorts the readings e.g. 198bpm - totally crazy.

Back running after achilles heel injury!

After eleven and a half weeks away from pain free running, today (29/12/10) marked my return - yipee! I can't wait to get back to serious training once more. My focus is the 2011 London Marathon in 17/4/11. My heart rate is all over the place - unsurprisingly!

Stationary Cycling - December 2010

My PB for my 42Km (26.2 miles) stationary cycle was set yesterday (Christmas Day 2010), but I wasn't wearing my Garmin Watch so I can't upload the data. The time, nevertheless, was 1hr 1min 25secs. The average heart rate was approxiamately 140bpm. The paths are still covered with snow and ice, so I can't even pop out for a training run and check out the progress on my achilles heel.

Stationary Cycling - December 11th 2010

Happy with that performance today, since it was another PB! I think I am ready to run again, but the pavements are still covered in snow and ice.

Stationary Cycling - December 5th 2010

I am showing real signs of improvement in my stationary cycling sessions. That was was yet another PB today for the 42km (26miles) indoor cycle. My achilles I think is fine again, but I haven't been able to run injury free for nine weeks now. I tried twice in recent weeks, but it back fired on me. I would have gone out running today, but the paths are covered with snow and ice. It has been like that for 5 days now. I hope we are not in for yet another big freeze, as last year was a runner's nightmare.
