2012 Hamilton Harriers 5K Christmas Handicap
The course had to change due to icy conditions on the normal route. The alternative was an out and back course. Point-to-point from the clubhouse to the school. I ran it in 18mins 22secs and posted the fastest time on the day. The course may even have been a touch long.

Jimmy Irvine 10K - 10/11/12
A bad race today. I felt a bit jaded going into this race and probably set off too fast. First half was 18.46 and then I had to even walk on two occasions during second half. I finished in an extremely disappointing 39.20.

Cumbernauld 10K - 9/9/12
My time today was 37mins 23secs (chip) and I finished in 21st position. That is the fastest time I have clocked on that course.
Highland Perthshire Half Marathon - 1/9/12
My time (chip) was 1hr 24mins 59secs and I finished in 9th position.

My time today was 18mins 59secs in position number 17. My third race in four days.
3K On The Green - July 2012
My time today was 10mins 40secs. I was happy with my time. I finished in eleventh position. That is 3mins 33secs per kilometre pace.
Kilmaurs 5K - 25/7/12
A nice evening and on a course I hadn't raced before. My time was 18mins 46secs. Quite happy as it is a hilly course.

Musselburgh 10K - 21/7/12
A disappointing time (39mins 42secs) and performance. I tired really badly in the second half of this road/trail race. My lack of preparation due to a hamstring injury probably contributed to this poor performance. I cycled over 26 miles on two occasions on the days leading up to this race and felt very tired afterwards. Hamstring still a bit tender after this race and I will now stop wearing racing flats, as I feeling they are causing me to incur injuries.

Glasgow Parkrun #180 - 30/6/12
Time today was 18mins 56secs. Lost a lot of time on the fourth kilometre e.g. 4mins.
The course was measured as exactly 5km on my Garmin and my race pace was the fastest it has been on this course for a while, so reasonably happy.

JogScotland 5K (Glasgow) – 20/6/12 (Wed)
Sunday, 17 June 2012
Men's Health Forum Scotland 10K - 17/6/12
Chip time today was 37mins 47secs. That is one second faster than last year's race and today I had to stop twice. The first stop was at the 4K mark in Pollock Park to tie my shoe lace and then again at the end when I crossed the mat and assumed it was the finish line, when in fact I had about another 70m still to run. I felt comfortable throughout today, but my hamstring tweaked at the 7K mark and is still a bit raw.

Monday, 11 June 2012
Polaroid Vale of Leven 10K - 10/6/12
Time today was 38mins 15secs (clock)and 38mins 09secs (chip). Chip time slower by 05secs from last year's race. Lactic kicked in again at 7K mark.
Saturday, 2 June 2012
Glasgow Parkrun #176 - 2/6/12
Time today was 18mins 49secs in position 18. Felt reasonably comfortable after Thursday evenings exertions.
Friday, 1 June 2012
Polaroid Dumbarton 10K - 31/5/12
My chip time tonight was 37mins 57secs. 5K split was 18mins 37secs so I lost about 45secs in the second half of the race. Lactic acid kicked in about the 6K mark, but I ploughed on and even managed to pick the pace up to 3.43mins for the final kilometre. Hopefully I can 'kick on from here' and get a bit fitter for future races.
Saturday, 26 May 2012
Polaroid Clydebank 10K - 24/05/12
Time was 42mins 24secs. Far too hot to race. I had to stop twice as I had a very bad stitch after drinking water at the 5.5km mark. Stopped at 6K and 9.6K. Last 400m took me about 2mins to get over the line. The worst I have ever felt after a race.

My Return to Running
Just after the Stirling 10K in September 2011 (time - 37.10) I started feeling pain in my left calf, then yikes it went 'pop' whilst I was out doing a recovery run some 4 days later. I cycled on my stationary bike and returned to running in December. In January 2012 I ran the Hamilton Harriers 10K Club Championship (time again 37.10). Then I focused on upping my mileage for the upcoming London Marathon, but foolishly ran 24 miles on the Saturday, then another 6 miles on the Sunday and further 9 miles on the Monday. Then on the Thursday of that week in early March my right calf popped and again I was injured. I thought I was on my way back and then two weeks before the marathon I raced a Glasgow Parkrun and re-injured my right calf. At the London Marathon my left calf popped at mile 4 and I was out of the race. Two weeks later I tried another Glasgow Parkrun and yikes I strained my right calf again, but at least it didn't tear. Today is May 11th 2012 and after lots of mountain biking I may try another Parkrun, since I managed a 10K easy paced run this morning. I tried my Newtons once more, but won't wear them too often. Changing my running shoes for each run may be the way to limit injuries. I know Paula Radcliffe recommends that strategy.
